We get all of our clays from Valentine Clays. We stock a variety at our shop in Pilling and would be happy to bring some with us if we are delivering / servicing for you. Our aim is to provide you with everything you need, so you can do what you do best and create.

Stoneware Clays

Method: Throwing, modelling, casting

Firing range: 1120°C – 1280°C

An excellent general purpose modelling clay with contains Shropshire and South Staffordshire Fire clays with a fine graded, dust free grogg.

Stoneware V9G – £8.52 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Method: Throwing, modellingV9G

Firing range: 1120°C – 1280°C

The addition of grogg gives good resistance to cracking and warping. V9G behaves well under oxidising and reduction conditions.

Stoneware HT Special – £6.89 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

This stoneware body is especially recommended for reduction, it contains extra additives to increase resistance to thermal shock. Suitable for oven to tableware.

KGM Body has a wide firing range so is suitable at earthenware temperatures (1080°C – 1120°C) and at stoneware temperatures (1220°C – 1250°C) The body throws and turns well, can be used with hand building and also makes a good slip casting body.

This clay is good for small and large pots and is a beautiful colour under oxidised and reduction firing. Also good for throwing and hand building where a smooth finish is required.

Firing range: 1120°C – 1280°C

ES5 fires very white and is highly resistant to warping and cracking. The addition of a small proportion of carefully blended and graded molochite means that ES5 throws large pieces easily and responds well to press moulding and slab building. Highly regarded by professional potters.

ES10 (Extra Smooth) – £14.73 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

A highly versatile fine white body with a broad range of applications, it throws and casts extremely well and takes sprigged or stamped decoration

ES20 (Smooth textured) – £21.75 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Method: Throwing, modelling, Hand building, slab building, coil building

Firing range: 1120°C – 1280°C

ES20 is a versatile clay that fires off white. The low shrinkage rate means it’s resistant to warping, cracking and thermal shock.

Firing range: 1120°C – 1280°C

An incredibly strong clay, heavily grogged to make the most extreme sculptural forms and is highly resistant to warping and cracking. Suitable for handmade tiles and murals.

ES180 (Sculpting/Pizza Pody) – £11.91 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Method: Modelling, hand building

Firing range: 900°C – 1280°C

A very coarsely grogged clay with beautiful texture. Suitable for pizza ovens, raku, large sculptures, saggers and hand built items. It has very low shrinkage, making it highly resistant to warping, cracking and thermal shock. Suitable for oxidisation and reduction firing.

Very white, smooth Porcelain. Suitable for small to medium hand built work with medium transparency at 1280°C.

Suitable for anyone who doesn’t have a kiln. ES950 has unrivalled strength and plasticity with a super fine particle size, allowing production of very detailed forms. Can be decorated with acrylic paints and finished with a clear varnish with excellent results.

The addition of grogg (10%) in this body improves strength in throwing and increases resistance to cracking and warping, especially on larger pieces.


Professional Clays

PF520 Ashraf Hanna – £21.24 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Firing range: 900°C – 1280°C

The very best white raku body on the market. With over 55% molochite, this body can withstand the most extreme thermal shock. It has very low shrinkage, a medium texture and is highly resistant to warping and cracking.

PF540 Jim Robison Crank – £13.18 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Method: Modelling, hand building

Firing range: 1180°C – 1300°C

A heavily grogged coarse crank clay developed for Jim Robison. Designed for producing large textural sculptural pieces, with low shrinkage it is ideal for ceramic murals and figurative work.

Black Chunky Sculpture Clay has a beautiful texture and is excellent for big sculptures an murals. It is a strong body with very low shrinkage, good for building rugged sculptural forms. It’s robust nature also makes it ideal for architectural ceramics. 

PF670 Smooth Textured Black – £23.91 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Firing range: 1080°C – 1260°C

Smooth textured black is good for sculptures, hand building or large thrown pieces. This clay has been specially formulated to fire between 1080°C – 1260°C with very low shrinkage.

PF680 Smooth Black – £25.03 inc VAT for 12.5Kg

Smooth Black contains a fine grog which gives a close texture to the body and a fine surface to finished pieces. This smooth finish should appeal to hand builders or sculptors who produce tiles or ceramic murals.
